Julie de Libran is a child of two continents. She was born in Aix-en-Provence in France. In 1980 she moved with her family to San Diego, where she stayed for 10 years. She fell in love with fashion as a young California girl.
By her teens, she was already turning her first sketches into dresses made by local seamstresses. Back to Europe, she studied fashion at Istituto Marangoni in Milan and Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture in Paris. Her career unfolded in fashion’s two most important cities. From 1991 to 1994 she worked with Gianfranco Ferré in Milan. Gianni Versace asked her to join as his assistant in 1996.
She moved to Prada two years later. Over the course of ten years there, she oversaw Prada’s women’s ready-to-wear, made-to-measure, celebrity dressing and lingerie collections rising to Design Director as Miuccia Prada’s right hand.
In 2008 she returned to Paris. For the next six years she served as Creative Director for women’s ready-to-wear and Head of the design studio at Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs.Overseeing a great house on her own was a logical next step. She took that step in 2014 when the legendary house of Sonia Rykiel tapped her as Artistic Director for a five-year run. Only one challenge remains and she is meeting it now. In June 2019, de Libran launched her own label, Julie de Libran Paris.
